Ingredients

Main
  • 1 cup heavy whipping cream
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon milk optional, for thinning

Equipment

  • Mixing bowl
  • Electric mixer or whisk
  • Spatula
  • Measuring cups and spoons

Method

  1. Chill your mixing bowl and beaters in the refrigerator for about 10 minutes.
  2. In the chilled bowl, pour in the heavy whipping cream. Add the powdered sugar and vanilla extract.
  3. Using an electric mixer on medium speed, start whipping the mixture.
  4. Gradually increase to high speed as the cream thickens, which should take about 3-5 minutes.
  5. Continue whipping until soft peaks form.
  6. If the frosting seems too thick, add a tablespoon of milk and mix briefly to incorporate.
  7. Taste the frosting. If you prefer it sweeter, add more powdered sugar, one tablespoon at a time.
  8. Use a spatula or piping bag to spread the frosting on your cooled cake.
  9. Slice your cake and serve immediately.

Notes

For the best results, do not over-whip the cream; it can turn into butter if whipped too long.
