Ingredients

Main
  • 1 pound fresh tuna steak diced
  • 1/4 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 egg beaten
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 4 burger buns
  • Optional toppings: lettuce tomato, avocado, and wasabi mayo

Equipment

  • Mixing bowl
  • Grill or frying pan
  • Spatula
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Knife and cutting board

Method

  1. Dice the fresh tuna into small pieces.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine the diced tuna, breadcrumbs, beaten egg, soy sauce, Dijon mustard, sesame oil, black pepper, and salt; mix until just combined.
  3. Divide the mixture into four equal portions and shape them into patties, making them slightly thicker in the center.
  4. Heat the grill or frying pan over medium-high heat.
  5. Place the patties on the grill or in the pan and cook for 4–5 minutes on each side until golden brown.
  6. While the patties cook, lightly toast the burger buns on the grill or in a separate pan.
  7. Assemble the burgers: place each patty on a toasted bun and add optional toppings.
  8. Serve immediately while hot.

Notes

For an extra flavor boost, marinate the tuna in soy sauce and sesame oil for 30 minutes before mixing.
