Ingredients

Main
  • 1 pound sponge cake or ladyfingers
  • 2 cups mixed berries strawberries, blueberries, raspberries
  • 2 cups vanilla pudding
  • 2 cups whipped cream
  • 1/4 cup sherry or fruit juice optional

Equipment

  • Large mixing bowl
  • Trifle dish or large glass bowl
  • Whisk
  • Spatula
  • Measuring cups and spoons

Method

  1. Gather all ingredients and decide whether to use homemade or store-bought cake and pudding.
  2. If using sponge cake, slice it into 1/2-inch thick pieces for easy layering.
  3. Place a layer of cake or ladyfingers at the bottom of the trifle dish to absorb the berry juices.
  4. Add a layer of mixed berries on top of the cake, spreading them evenly.
  5. Spoon vanilla pudding over the berries, smoothing it with a spatula.
  6. Repeat the cake, berry, and pudding layers until you reach the top, finishing with a layer of whipped cream.
  7. Cover the trifle with plastic wrap and chill in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours.
  8. When ready to serve, garnish with extra berries or a sprinkle of nuts and enjoy chilled.

Notes

Chill the trifle for at least 2 hours before serving to allow the layers to set and meld flavors.
