Transfusion Drink

A refreshing vodka-based cocktail that combines the sweetness of Concord grape juice with the spicy kick of ginger beer and a bright splash of fresh lime.

Ingredients

  • Vodka 1.5 ounces
  • Grape juice 3 ounces Concord grape preferred
  • Ginger beer 2 ounces
  • Fresh lime juice 0.5 ounce
  • Ice cubes to fill glass
  • Lime wedge for garnish
  • Grapes optional for garnish

Method
 

  1. Chill a highball or Collins glass in the freezer for 5 minutes or fill it with ice water while you prepare the ingredients.
  2. Cut a fresh lime in half and juice one half to yield approximately 0.5 ounce of lime juice.
  3. Discard any ice water from the chilled glass and fill the glass completely with fresh ice cubes.
  4. Measure 1.5 ounces of vodka and pour it slowly over the ice.
  5. Add 3 ounces of Concord grape juice to the glass.
  6. Pour in 0.5 ounce of freshly squeezed lime juice.
  7. Gently top the drink with 2 ounces of ginger beer, pouring down the side of the glass to preserve carbonation.
  8. Stir the cocktail two or three times with a bar spoon to combine without losing effervescence.
  9. Garnish with a lime wedge on the rim and a few fresh grapes if desired, then serve immediately while cold and fizzy.

Notes

For the most balanced flavor, use unsweetened Concord grape juice and a high-quality ginger beer made with real ginger. To make a non-alcoholic version, omit the vodka and increase the ginger beer to maintain volume.
