Ingredients

Main
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper optional for heat
  • 1 jar 16 oz sliced dill pickles
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • Ranch dressing for dipping

Equipment

  • Medium bowl
  • Whisk
  • Frying pan or deep fryer
  • Tongs
  • Paper towels

Method

  1. Drain the pickles thoroughly to reduce excess moisture.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, garlic powder, paprika, and cayenne pepper.
  3. Gradually pour in the buttermilk while whisking until you have a smooth batter.
  4. In a frying pan or deep fryer, heat about 2 inches of vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C).
  5. Dip each pickle slice into the batter, ensuring it's evenly coated.
  6. Carefully place the battered pickles into the hot oil in batches.
  7. Fry the pickles for about 2-3 minutes on each side, or until golden brown.
  8. Use tongs to remove the fried pickles and place them on paper towels to drain excess oil.
  9. Serve them hot with ranch dressing for dipping.

Notes

For extra spice, add more cayenne pepper or a dash of hot sauce to the batter. Serve immediately for the best crunch.
