Ingredients

Main
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast 1 packet
  • 1/3 cup unsalted butter melted
  • 1 large egg
  • 3 1/2 to 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt

Equipment

  • Mixing bowl
  • Whisk
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Wooden spoon or spatula
  • Rolling pin
  • Baking sheet
  • Clean kitchen towel

Method

  1. Heat the milk in a saucepan until warm but not boiling.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine the warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until foamy.
  3. Stir in the melted butter and the egg into the yeast mixture.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour and salt.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring with a wooden spoon until a dough forms.
  6. Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 5 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  7. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  8. Punch down the risen dough and divide it into 12 equal pieces. Shape each piece into a ball and place them on a greased baking sheet.
  9. Cover the rolls with a towel and let them rise again for 30 minutes.
  10. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake the rolls for 15 minutes or until golden brown.
  11. Remove the rolls from the oven and brush with melted butter immediately.
  12. Allow the rolls to cool slightly before serving.
