Ingredients

Main
  • 2 ripe plantains peeled and sliced diagonally
  • 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil for frying
  • 1 tablespoon of brown sugar optional for extra sweetness
  • Pinch of salt to enhance flavor

Equipment

  • Sharp knife
  • Cutting board
  • Frying pan or skillet
  • Tongs or slotted spoon
  • Paper towels

Method

  1. Start by peeling the plantains and slicing them diagonally into thick pieces.
  2. In a frying pan, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat until it's shimmering.
  3. Carefully add the sliced plantains to the hot oil in a single layer, avoiding overcrowding.
  4. Fry the plantains for about 2-3 minutes on each side until golden brown.
  5. If using, sprinkle the brown sugar and a pinch of salt over the plantains in the last minute of cooking.
  6. Once golden, use tongs or a slotted spoon to remove the plantains from the oil.
  7. Drain them on paper towels to remove excess oil.
  8. Serve warm for the best flavor and texture.
