Ingredients

Main
  • 1/2 cup popcorn kernels
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil or coconut oil
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt to taste
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter optional

Equipment

  • Large pot with a lid
  • Stovetop
  • Measuring cups
  • Wooden spoon or spatula
  • Bowl for serving

Method

  1. In a large pot, heat the vegetable or coconut oil over medium heat.
  2. Add 2 or 3 popcorn kernels to the pot and cover.
  3. When the test kernels pop, remove them and add the remaining popcorn kernels to the pot.
  4. Cover the pot with a lid, leaving it slightly ajar to let steam escape.
  5. Gently shake the pot every few seconds to prevent the kernels from burning.
  6. Keep shaking the pot until the popping slows to about 2 seconds between pops.
  7. Once the popping slows, remove the pot from the heat and let it sit for a minute.
  8. Transfer the popcorn to a large bowl and drizzle with melted butter, if using.
  9. Sprinkle with salt or your favorite seasonings.
  10. Mix everything gently to distribute the seasoning and enjoy!

Notes

For the best flavor, season your popcorn while it's warm.
