Ingredients

Main
  • 4 slices sourdough bread
  • 4 slices cheddar cheese
  • 4 tablespoons butter
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder optional
  • Fresh herbs for garnish optional

Equipment

  • Skillet or frying pan
  • Spatula
  • Knife for spreading
  • Cutting board

Method

  1. Lay out the slices of sourdough bread on a clean surface.
  2. Spread 1 tablespoon of butter on one side of each bread slice.
  3. On the unbuttered side of two slices, layer the cheddar cheese.
  4. Top with the remaining two slices of bread, buttered side out.
  5. Place your skillet on medium heat and allow it to warm up.
  6. Carefully place the sandwiches in the skillet. Cook for 3-4 minutes until golden brown, then flip.
  7. After flipping, cook for another 3-4 minutes until both sides are golden and the cheese is melting.
  8. Remove the sandwiches from the skillet, let cool for a minute, and cut in half to serve.

Notes

For an extra crunch, sprinkle garlic powder on the bread before grilling. Pairs well with tomato soup or a green salad.
