Ingredients

Main
  • 1 cup glutinous rice flour
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup red bean paste or filling of choice
  • 1/2 cup sesame seeds
  • Vegetable oil for frying

Equipment

  • Large mixing bowl
  • Rolling pin
  • Frying pan or deep fryer
  • slotted spoon
  • Cooking thermometer (optional)

Method

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the glutinous rice flour and sugar.
  2. Gradually add water while mixing until a smooth dough forms.
  3. Divide the dough into 12 equal pieces.
  4. Flatten each piece of dough into a small disc in your palm.
  5. Place about a teaspoon of your chosen filling in the center of each disc.
  6. Fold the edges of the dough over the filling and roll it into a smooth ball.
  7. Roll each ball in sesame seeds until fully coated.
  8. In a frying pan or deep fryer, heat enough vegetable oil to submerge the balls to around 350°F (175°C).
  9. Carefully place the balls into the hot oil, frying them in batches for about 5-7 minutes until golden brown.
  10. Use a slotted spoon to remove the sesame balls from the oil and drain them on paper towels.
  11. Serve warm for the best experience!

Notes

Ensure the filling is not too watery to avoid leakage during frying. Perfect with tea.
