Ingredients

Main
  • 2 6-ounce ahi tuna steaks, sushi-grade
  • 2 tablespoons sesame oil for searing
  • Salt to taste
  • Pepper to taste
  • Optional garnish: sliced green onions or sesame seeds

Equipment

  • Heavy skillet or frying pan
  • Sharp knife for slicing

Method

  1. Start with fresh, sushi-grade ahi tuna steaks. Pat them dry with a paper towel.
  2. Sprinkle salt and pepper generously on both sides of the steaks.
  3. Place your skillet over medium-high heat and add the sesame oil.
  4. Once the oil is shimmering, carefully place the tuna steaks in the skillet.
  5. Sear for about 1-2 minutes without moving them.
  6. Using a spatula, gently flip the steaks and sear for another 1-2 minutes.
  7. If using a meat thermometer, check for an internal temperature of 125°F for medium-rare.
  8. Once cooked to your liking, remove the tuna from the skillet and let it rest for a minute.
  9. Using a sharp knife, slice the tuna into thin strips.

Notes

Serve with a refreshing cucumber salad or jasmine rice.
