Ingredients

Main
  • 1.5 ounces 45 milliliters rum (white, gold, or spiced)
  • 4 to 5 ounces 120 to 150 milliliters cola, chilled
  • 4 to 6 ice cubes
  • 1 lime wedge or wheel for garnish

Equipment

  • Highball glass (8 to 10 ounce)
  • Jigger
  • Bar spoon
  • Knife or cocktail pick
  • Ice bucket or freezer

Method

  1. Step 1: Chill your glass by filling it with ice and letting it sit for 30 seconds.
  2. Step 2: Discard the water from chilling and add fresh ice to fill the glass about three quarters full.
  3. Step 3: Measure 1.5 ounces of rum using a jigger.
  4. Step 4: Pour the measured rum slowly over the ice, tilting the glass to prevent splashing.
  5. Step 5: Top with 4 to 5 ounces of chilled cola, pouring slowly to preserve carbonation.
  6. Step 6: Stir gently with a bar spoon for 10 to 15 seconds using a downward motion.
  7. Step 7: Hold a lime wedge over the drink and twist sharply to release the oils onto the surface.
  8. Step 8: Garnish with the lime wedge on the rim or dropped into the glass and serve immediately.

Notes

Serve immediately while the drink is cold and carbonation is at its peak.
