Ingredients

Main
  • 1 ½ cups warm water about 110°F
  • 1 packet active dry yeast 2 ¼ teaspoons
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ⅓ cup baking soda
  • 1 large egg beaten
  • 1 cup chocolate chips
  • 1 cup M&M's

Equipment

  • Baking sheet
  • Parchment paper
  • Large mixing bowl
  • Whisk
  • Rolling pin
  • Cookie cutter or knife

Method

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the warm water, yeast, and sugar. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until it becomes bubbly and foamy.
  2. Add the flour and salt to the yeast mixture. Stir until a dough forms, then knead on a floured surface for about 5 minutes until smooth.
  3. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until it doubles in size.
  4. While the dough is rising, preheat your oven to 425°F. In a large pot, bring 8 cups of water to a boil and stir in the baking soda.
  5. Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into 12 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a long rope and twist it into a pretzel shape.
  6. Carefully place each pretzel into the boiling baking soda bath for about 30 seconds.
  7. Remove the pretzels from the bath and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Brush them with the beaten egg, then sprinkle with chocolate chips and M&M's.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes until golden brown. Allow them to cool slightly before enjoying!

Notes

Serve with chocolate sauce, caramel sauce, peanut butter dip, or fresh fruit.
