Ingredients

Main
  • 4 large portobello mushrooms
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons balsamic vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 4 burger buns
  • 4 slices of cheese optional
  • Fresh lettuce tomato, and onion for toppings
  • Your favorite condiments like mayo or mustard

Equipment

  • Grill or grill pan
  • Baking sheet
  • Mixing bowl
  • Brush for oil
  • Tongs

Method

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine olive oil, balsamic vinegar, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper.
  2. Place the portobello mushrooms in the bowl, ensuring they are well coated. Let them sit for at least 15 minutes.
  3. Heat your grill or grill pan over medium-high heat.
  4. Place the marinated mushrooms on the grill, gill side down. Grill for about 5-7 minutes, then flip and grill for another 5 minutes.
  5. If using cheese, place a slice on each mushroom during the last minute of grilling.
  6. While the mushrooms are grilling, place the burger buns on the grill, cut side down. Toast them for 1-2 minutes until golden brown.
  7. Start with the bottom half of the bun, add the grilled mushroom, and layer on your desired toppings.
  8. Top with the other half of the bun and serve immediately.

Notes

Let the mushrooms marinate longer if you have time; it intensifies the flavor!
