Ingredients

Main
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet active dry yeast 2 1/4 teaspoons
  • 1 1/2 cups warm water 110°F to 115°F
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil

Equipment

  • Large mixing bowl
  • Wooden spoon or spatula
  • Plastic wrap
  • Rolling pin
  • Baking sheet or pizza stone
  • Measuring cups and spoons

Method

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes foamy.
  2. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour and salt.
  3. Add the yeast mixture and olive oil to the flour mixture. Stir with a wooden spoon until it starts to come together.
  4. Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes.
  5. Place the dough in a greased bowl and cover it with plastic wrap. Let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour.
  6. After rising, punch down the dough to release air. Divide it into two equal portions and shape each into a ball.
  7. On a floured surface, use a rolling pin to roll out each ball into your desired thickness.
  8. Pre-bake the rolled-out dough on a baking sheet or pizza stone at 450°F for about 5 minutes if a crispier base is preferred.
