Ingredients
  

Main
  • 2 ounces gin or vodka quality matters here
  • 1 ounce dry vermouth
  • 1/2 ounce fresh pickle juice from a quality dill pickle jar
  • Ice preferably large cubes
  • Fresh dill pickle speared on a cocktail pick for garnish
  • Optional: dash of hot sauce for extra kick

Equipment

  • Cocktail shaker or mason jar with tight-fitting lid
  • Jigger or shot glass for measuring
  • Strainer or fine-mesh sieve
  • Mixing spoon or bar spoon
  • Martini glass or coupe glass, chilled
  • Cutting board and knife for garnish
  • Cocktail pick or skewer for garnish

Method
 

  1. Chill your martini glass in the freezer for at least 5 minutes.
  2. Fill your cocktail shaker or mason jar halfway with large ice cubes.
  3. Measure and pour 2 ounces of gin or vodka into the ice-filled shaker.
  4. Add 1 ounce of dry vermouth to the shaker.
  5. Pour in 1/2 ounce of fresh pickle juice and a dash of hot sauce if desired.
  6. Cover the shaker and shake vigorously for 15 seconds or stir gently for 30 seconds.
  7. Strain the mixture into the chilled martini glass using a fine-mesh sieve.
  8. Garnish with a fresh dill pickle spear on a cocktail pick and serve immediately.

Notes

Make your own pickle juice at home by quick-pickling cucumbers in vinegar, salt, dill, and garlic for 48 hours for the freshest flavor.
