Ingredients

Main
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 ½ cups warm water about 110°F
  • 2 ¼ teaspoons active dry yeast 1 packet
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil

Equipment

  • Large mixing bowl
  • Stand mixer with dough hook (optional)
  • Baking sheet
  • Parchment paper
  • Kitchen towel
  • Measuring cups and spoons

Method

  1. In a small bowl, combine the warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let this mixture sit for about 5-10 minutes until it's frothy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl or stand mixer, combine the flour and salt.
  3. Pour in the yeast mixture and olive oil, mixing until a rough dough forms.
  4. Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes until it’s smooth and elastic.
  5. Place the kneaded dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  6. After the dough has risen, punch it down to release the air. Divide it into 12 equal pieces and shape each into a roll.
  7. Place the shaped rolls on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Cover with a towel and let them rise for another 30 minutes until puffy.
  8. Preheat your oven to 425°F while the rolls are rising.
  9. Bake the rolls in the preheated oven for about 15-20 minutes until golden brown.

Notes

These rolls can be filled with deli meats, cheeses, or veggies for a delicious sandwich.
