Ingredients

Main
  • 1 whole fish about 2-3 pounds, such as snapper or tilapia
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • 3 tablespoons lime juice
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 teaspoons ground cumin
  • 2 teaspoons smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • Fresh cilantro for garnish
  • Lime wedges for serving

Equipment

  • Grill or grill pan
  • Mixing bowl
  • Whisk
  • Fish spatula
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Knife for filleting (if using whole fish)

Method

  1. In a mixing bowl, whisk together the olive oil, lime juice, soy sauce, cumin, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper.
  2. If using a whole fish, make sure it is cleaned and scaled.
  3. Place the fish in a large dish and pour the marinade over it, making sure to coat both sides. Let it marinate for at least 15 minutes.
  4. Heat your grill to medium-high heat.
  5. Lightly oil the grill grates to prevent sticking.
  6. Place the fish on the grill and cook for about 6-8 minutes per side, depending on thickness.
  7. Use a fish spatula to gently lift the fish and check for doneness.
  8. Carefully transfer the grilled fish to a serving platter, garnish with fresh cilantro and lime wedges.

Notes

For extra flavor, try placing lime slices inside the fish before grilling.
