Ingredients

Main
  • 2 pounds ground beef
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 small onion finely chopped
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 cup ketchup for topping

Equipment

  • Large mixing bowl
  • Loaf pan
  • Skillet
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Knife and cutting board

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a skillet over medium heat, sauté the chopped onion until translucent, about 5 minutes.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, sautéed onion, milk, 1/4 cup ketchup, eggs, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and Worcestershire sauce; mix gently to avoid overworking the meat.
  4. Transfer the mixture into a loaf pan, shaping it into an even loaf.
  5. Spread 1/2 cup of ketchup over the top of the meatloaf to create a glaze.
  6. Bake in the preheated oven for about 1 hour, until cooked through.
  7. Check the internal temperature with a meat thermometer; it should read 160°F (70°C).
  8. Let the meatloaf rest in the pan for 10 minutes before slicing to allow juices to redistribute.

Notes

Don't skip the resting step; it makes a noticeable difference in texture!
