Ingredients

Main
  • 1 pound fresh lump crab meat
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Old Bay seasoning
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon fresh parsley chopped (optional)
  • 4 tablespoons butter for frying

Equipment

  • Mixing bowls
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Frying pan or skillet
  • Spatula
  • Baking sheet (optional)

Method

  1. Gently pick through the crab meat to remove any shells or cartilage.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the crab meat, breadcrumbs, mayonnaise, egg, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, Old Bay seasoning, salt, and pepper. Stir until just combined, being careful not to break up the crab meat too much.
  3. Shape the mixture into patties, about 3 inches in diameter.
  4. Cover the formed crab cakes with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
  5. In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat.
  6. Carefully add the crab cakes to the pan, cooking for about 4-5 minutes on each side until golden brown.
  7. Once cooked, transfer the crab cakes to a paper towel-lined plate to drain any excess oil.
  8. Serve the crab cakes warm with your favorite dipping sauce or a squeeze of lemon.

Notes

For an extra flavor boost, add a dash of hot sauce to the mixture!
