  • Garlic powder optional, for seasoning

Equipment

  • Sharp knife
  • Cutting board

Method

  1. Peel the potatoes if desired or leave the skins on for extra texture.
  2. Slice the potatoes into sticks about 1/4 inch thick for even cooking.
  3. Place the potato sticks in a bowl of cold water and soak for at least 30 minutes to remove excess starch.
  4. Heat vegetable oil in a large pot or deep fryer to 350°F (175°C).
  5. Drain the potatoes and dry them thoroughly with paper towels to prevent oil splatter.
  6. Fry the potatoes in batches for 5–7 minutes or until golden brown, avoiding overcrowding.
  7. Use a slotted spoon to transfer the fries to paper towels, drain excess oil, and immediately season with salt and optional spices.
  8. Serve the papas fritas hot with your favorite dipping sauces for best enjoyment.

Notes

These fries are best enjoyed fresh and hot. Store leftovers in an airtight container and reheat in a 400°F (200°C) oven for 10 minutes for crispiness.
