Ingredients

Main
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup warm water about 110°F
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 tablespoon instant yeast
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs for coating

Equipment

  • Large mixing bowl
  • Whisk
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Baking sheet
  • Parchment paper
  • Kitchen towel or plastic wrap
  • Oven

Method

  1. In a bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour and salt.
  3. Add the yeast mixture and vegetable oil to the flour mixture. Stir until a dough begins to form.
  4. Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  5. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour.
  6. Once risen, punch down the dough to release air. Divide it into 12 equal pieces and shape each piece into a ball.
  7. Roll each ball in breadcrumbs and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Cover with a towel and let them rise for another 30 minutes.
  8. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake the rolls for about 20 minutes or until golden brown.
  9. For an extra soft Pandesal, brush the rolls with melted butter right after baking.
