Main
  • 6 cups oyster crackers about one 10-ounce bag
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

Equipment

  • Shallow baking sheet
  • Small saucepan or microwave safe bowl
  • Wooden spoon or spatula
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Airtight storage container
  • Oven

Method

  1. Preheat the oven to 250°F (120°C) and let it heat for 5 minutes.
  2. Pour 6 cups of oyster crackers into a large mixing bowl without compressing them.
  3. Melt 4 tablespoons of unsalted butter in a small saucepan over low heat or in a microwave-safe bowl until fully liquid.
  4. In a small bowl, whisk together 1 teaspoon garlic powder, 1 teaspoon onion powder, 1/2 teaspoon salt, and 1/4 teaspoon black pepper until evenly combined.
  5. Drizzle the melted butter over the crackers in a slow, circular motion to coat evenly.
  6. Sprinkle the seasoning mixture over the buttered crackers, ensuring even coverage.
  7. Toss the crackers with a wooden spoon or spatula for about 2 minutes until each piece is coated in butter and seasonings.
  8. Spread the coated crackers in a single layer on an ungreased shallow baking sheet.
  9. Bake at 250°F (120°C) for 12 minutes, stirring halfway through at the 6-minute mark to ensure even toasting.
  10. Remove the crackers from the oven and spread them on a clean baking sheet or paper towels to cool for at least 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

Store cooled crackers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days to maintain crispness.
