Ingredients

Main
  • 4-5 lbs pork shoulder
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon paprika
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • 1 cup barbecue sauce

Equipment

  • Oven-safe roasting pan
  • Aluminum foil
  • Meat thermometer
  • Sharp knife
  • Cutting board

Method

  1. Preheat the oven to 300°F (150°C).
  2. Trim excess fat off the pork shoulder.
  3. In a small bowl, combine brown sugar, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, black pepper, and cumin.
  4. Rub the spice mixture all over the pork shoulder.
  5. Place the seasoned pork shoulder in an oven-safe roasting pan.
  6. Cover the pan tightly with aluminum foil.
  7. Roast the pork in the preheated oven for about 4 hours, or until it reaches an internal temperature of 195°F (90°C).
  8. Once cooked, remove the pork from the oven and let it rest for 20 minutes.
  9. Use two forks to shred the meat, mixing in your favorite barbecue sauce.

Notes

Let the pork rest longer if possible to help the juices redistribute.
