  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 packet 2 ¼ teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil

Equipment

  • Mixing bowl
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Wooden spoon or dough whisk
  • Plastic wrap or damp cloth
  • Pizza stone or baking sheet
  • Parchment paper (optional)

Method

  1. Step 1: In a mixing bowl, combine 1 ½ cups warm water (110°F), 1 teaspoon sugar, and 1 packet (2 ¼ teaspoons) active dry yeast. Let sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
  2. Step 2: In a separate bowl, whisk together 4 cups all-purpose flour and 2 teaspoons salt.
  3. Step 3: Add the frothy yeast mixture and 2 tablespoons olive oil to the dry ingredients and stir until a shaggy dough forms.
  4. Step 4: Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  5. Step 5: Shape the dough into a ball, place in a greased bowl, cover with plastic wrap or a damp cloth, and let rise in a warm place for 1–1.5 hours until doubled in size.
  6. Step 6: Punch down the dough to release air bubbles.
  7. Step 7: Divide the dough into two equal portions, shape each into a ball, and let rest for 15–30 minutes.
  8. Step 8: Preheat oven to 475°F (245°C) with a pizza stone inside.
  9. Step 9: Stretch each dough ball into a pizza base, add desired toppings, and bake on the pizza stone or baking sheet for 15-20 minutes until golden and crisp.

Notes

You can refrigerate the dough for up to 3 days or freeze for up to 3 months. Let the dough cold ferment overnight for enhanced flavor.
