Ingredients

Main
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup warm water
  • Vegetable oil for frying

Equipment

  • Large mixing bowl
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Rolling pin
  • Frying pan or deep skillet
  • slotted spoon
  • Paper towels

Method

  1. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  2. Gradually add the warm water to the dry mixture. Stir until the dough begins to come together.
  3. Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead it gently for about 2-3 minutes.
  4. Cover the dough with a clean cloth and let it rest for 10-15 minutes.
  5. While the dough rests, heat about 1 inch of vegetable oil in a frying pan over medium heat.
  6. Divide the dough into 6 equal pieces. Roll each piece out to about 1/4 inch thick.
  7. Carefully place the rolled dough into the hot oil. Fry each piece for about 1-2 minutes on each side until golden brown.
  8. Using a slotted spoon, remove the fry bread and place it on paper towels to drain excess oil.
  9. Serve warm and enjoy!

Notes

Fry bread pairs wonderfully with chili, honey, or even as a base for tacos.
