Ingredients

Main
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon instant yeast
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon sugar
  • 1/2 cup plain yogurt
  • 1/4 cup warm water more as needed
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil or melted butter for brushing

Equipment

  • Mixing bowl
  • Rolling pin
  • Skillet or tawa
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Kitchen towel

Method

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, instant yeast, salt, and sugar.
  2. Stir in the plain yogurt and warm water into the dry mixture to create a soft dough.
  3. Transfer the dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead for about 5 minutes.
  4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a kitchen towel, and let it rise for about 1 hour.
  5. Once risen, punch down the dough and divide it into 4 equal portions.
  6. On a floured surface, roll each piece into a teardrop or circle shape, about 1/4 inch thick.
  7. Heat a skillet over medium-high heat and place the rolled naan on it.
  8. Cook for about 2-3 minutes on each side until bubbles form and it turns golden brown.
  9. Brush the hot naan with olive oil or melted butter before serving.

Notes

For extra flavor, sprinkle some minced garlic or fresh herbs on the naan right after brushing!
