Ingredients

Main
  • 10 fresh mint leaves
  • 1 lime cut into wedges
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 cup white rum
  • 1 cup club soda
  • Ice cubes
  • Mint sprigs for garnish

Equipment

  • Mint muddler or a wooden spoon
  • Measuring jigger
  • Shaker or mixing glass
  • Strainer
  • Glasses for serving

Method

  1. Add the mint leaves to a sturdy glass and gently muddle with a muddler or wooden spoon to release their oils.
  2. Place the lime wedges into the glass and squeeze gently to release the juice.
  3. Sprinkle the sugar over the mint and lime mixture to balance the tartness.
  4. Gently muddle the mixture again until the sugar dissolves and flavors combine.
  5. Pour in the white rum and stir to mix with the muddled ingredients.
  6. Fill the glass with ice cubes, almost to the top.
  7. Top with club soda, pouring over the ice until the glass is full.
  8. Stir gently to combine, garnish with a sprig of mint, and serve immediately with a straw.

Notes

Always use fresh mint for the best flavor. Dried mint will not provide the same vibrant taste.
