  • 1 cup apple diced
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 cup butter softened
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup cold water

Equipment

  • Mixing bowl
  • Rolling pin
  • Pie dish or muffin tin
  • Electric mixer (optional)
  • Pastry brush
  • Baking sheet

Method

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the mixed dried fruits, diced apple, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and lemon juice.
  2. In another bowl, mix the softened butter, all-purpose flour, and salt until crumbly.
  3. Gradually add cold water to the flour mixture, stirring until it forms a dough.
  4. Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 20 minutes.
  5. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  6. On a floured surface, roll out the chilled dough to about 1/8 inch thick.
  7. Cut out circles from the dough and place them in your pie dish or muffin tin.
  8. Spoon the filling into each crust, leaving some space at the top for expansion.
  9. Cut out additional circles or shapes for the top crust and place them over the filling.
  10. Seal the edges with a fork to keep the filling from spilling out.
  11. Brush the top crust with an egg wash for a golden finish.
  12. Bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes or until golden brown.

Notes

Serve warm, optionally with whipped cream or custard.
