Method
 

  1. In a mixing glass, combine 2 ounces bourbon, 1/2 teaspoon maple syrup, and 2 dashes Angostura bitters.
  2. Add ice cubes to the mixing glass and stir gently for about 30 seconds to chill and dilute the mixture.
  3. Prepare an old fashioned glass by adding a large ice cube or several small ice cubes.
  4. Using a strainer, pour the chilled bourbon mixture over the ice in the prepared glass.
  5. Hold a small piece of orange peel over the glass and twist to express the oils onto the drink.
  6. Drop the twisted orange peel into the glass as a garnish.
  7. Admire your cocktail and then sip slowly to appreciate the layers of flavors.
  8. Experiment by adjusting the sweetness or trying different bitters to suit your taste preferences.
