Ingredients

Main
  • 32 ounces frozen tater tots one standard 2-pound bag, no thawing needed
  • 8 ounces sharp cheddar cheese shredded
  • 8 slices bacon cooked and crumbled
  • 4 tablespoons sour cream
  • 2 tablespoons fresh chives finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon butter melted
  • Salt and black pepper to taste

Equipment

  • Large baking sheet
  • Parchment paper or aluminum foil
  • Small bowl
  • Tongs or spatula

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 425°F (218°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper or foil for easy cleanup.
  2. Spread the frozen tater tots in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet, ensuring they are not overcrowded.
  3. Drizzle the melted butter over the tots and toss gently with tongs to coat evenly.
  4. Bake the tots for 10 minutes, shaking the pan or flipping them with tongs halfway through to ensure even browning.
  5. Remove the baking sheet and sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese evenly over the tots.
  6. Return the tots to the oven and bake for an additional 5 to 7 minutes, until the cheese is melted and bubbling and the tots are deep golden brown.
  7. While the tots bake, cook the bacon until crispy by your preferred method, then drain on paper towels and crumble.
  8. Remove the tots from the oven and let them rest for 1 minute to allow the cheese to set slightly.
  9. Top the tots with the crumbled bacon, dollops of sour cream, and a sprinkle of fresh chives, then season with salt and pepper to taste.

Notes

These tots are best served immediately while crispy; customize toppings or reheat leftovers in a 350°F oven for 8–10 minutes.
