Method
- Preheat your oven to 425°F (218°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper or foil for easy cleanup.
- Spread the frozen tater tots in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet, ensuring they are not overcrowded.
- Drizzle the melted butter over the tots and toss gently with tongs to coat evenly.
- Bake the tots for 10 minutes, shaking the pan or flipping them with tongs halfway through to ensure even browning.
- Remove the baking sheet and sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese evenly over the tots.
- Return the tots to the oven and bake for an additional 5 to 7 minutes, until the cheese is melted and bubbling and the tots are deep golden brown.
- While the tots bake, cook the bacon until crispy by your preferred method, then drain on paper towels and crumble.
- Remove the tots from the oven and let them rest for 1 minute to allow the cheese to set slightly.
- Top the tots with the crumbled bacon, dollops of sour cream, and a sprinkle of fresh chives, then season with salt and pepper to taste.
Notes
These tots are best served immediately while crispy; customize toppings or reheat leftovers in a 350°F oven for 8–10 minutes.
