Main
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 cup 2 sticks unsalted butter, chilled and cubed
  • 6 to 8 tablespoons ice water

Equipment

  • Mixing bowl
  • Pastry cutter or fork

  • Pie dish
  • Plastic wrap
  • Parchment paper (optional)

Method

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, salt, and sugar.
  2. Using a pastry cutter or fork, cut the chilled butter into the dry ingredients until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. Gradually add the ice water, one tablespoon at a time, mixing gently with a fork.
  4. Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface and shape it into a disc.
  5. Wrap the disc in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
  6. On a floured surface, roll out the dough to fit your pie dish.
  7. Carefully transfer the rolled dough to your pie dish and gently press it into the corners.
  8. If necessary, prick the bottom with a fork and bake at 375°F for 15-20 minutes until lightly golden.

Notes

For an extra flaky crust, keep your ingredients and tools cold. Experiment with different flours for unique flavors.
