Ingredients

Main
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup water as needed

Equipment

  • Baking sheet
  • Parchment paper
  • Mixing bowl
  • Rolling pin
  • Cookie cutter or knife
  • Whisk
  • Measuring cups and spoons

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  3. In a mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar.
  4. In another bowl, cream the softened butter and sugar together until light and fluffy.
  5. Add the eggs, one at a time, and the vanilla extract to the butter mixture.
  6. Gradually mix the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients until fully combined.
  7. If the dough is too dry, add water one tablespoon at a time until you achieve a workable dough.
  8. Flour your work surface and roll out the dough to about 1/4 inch thick.
  9. Use a cookie cutter or knife to cut shapes as desired.
  10. Place the cut cookies on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 12-15 minutes until golden.
