  • 2 ounces vodka
  • 1 ounce fresh key lime juice about 3-4 key limes
  • 0.5 ounce coconut rum optional
  • 0.5 ounce simple syrup
  • Ice about 1 cup for shaking
  • Fresh lime wheel or twist for garnish

Method
 

  1. Chill a martini glass in the freezer for at least five minutes.
  2. Cut key limes in half and juice until you have 1 ounce of fresh key lime juice.
  3. Measure and pour 2 ounces vodka and 0.5 ounce coconut rum into the cocktail shaker.
  4. Add 1 ounce fresh key lime juice and 0.5 ounce simple syrup to the shaker.
  5. Fill the shaker with about 1 cup of fresh ice.
  6. Shake vigorously for 10-12 seconds until the shaker is frosty.
  7. Strain the cocktail into the chilled martini glass, leaving the ice behind.
  8. Garnish with a fresh lime wheel or twist and serve immediately.

Notes

Always use freshly squeezed key lime juice and fresh ice for best flavor and minimal dilution.
