Ingredients

Main
  • 4 boneless skinless chicken breasts
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • 4 burger buns
  • Leafy lettuce for topping
  • Tomato slices optional
  • Your favorite sauce like mayo or spicy sauce

Equipment

  • Large bowl for marinating
  • Meat mallet or rolling pin
  • Shallow dish for breading
  • Frying pan or deep fryer
  • Tongs for flipping
  • Serving platter

Method

  1. Place the chicken breasts between two sheets of plastic wrap and pound them to an even thickness of about 1 inch.
  2. Marinate the chicken in buttermilk in a large bowl for at least 30 minutes.
  3. In a shallow dish, mix flour, paprika, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
  4. Remove the chicken from the buttermilk, let excess drip off, and dredge in the flour mixture.
  5. Heat about 1 inch of vegetable oil in a frying pan over medium heat.
  6. Carefully add the coated chicken to the hot oil, frying for about 5-7 minutes on each side until golden brown and cooked through.
  7. Drain cooked chicken on a paper towel-lined plate.
  8. Assemble the sandwich by placing a piece of fried chicken on each bun, adding lettuce, tomato slices, and your favorite sauce.

Notes

For extra crunch, consider double-dipping the chicken in buttermilk and flour.
