Ingredients

Main
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter cold and cubed
  • 3/4 cup buttermilk

Equipment

  • Mixing bowl
  • Whisk
  • Rolling pin
  • Baking sheet
  • Parchment paper
  • Pastry cutter or fork

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 450°F (232°C).
  2. In a mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, and baking soda.
  3. Add the cold, cubed butter to the dry ingredients and cut it in until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Pour in the buttermilk and mix until just combined.
  5. Transfer the dough onto a lightly floured surface and pat it into a rectangle about 1-inch thick.
  6. Fold the dough over onto itself a few times, about 3 to 4 times.
  7. Roll the dough out to about 1-inch thick and cut out biscuits using a biscuit cutter.
  8. Place the biscuits on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  9. Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until golden brown on top.

Notes

For extra flaky biscuits, make sure your butter is very cold and do not overwork the dough.
