Method
- Chill the rocks glass by filling it with ice and letting it sit while you prepare the cocktail.
- Cut a lemon in half and juice it to yield 0.75 ounces (22 milliliters) of fresh lemon juice, straining out pulp and seeds.
- If needed, prepare honey syrup by mixing equal parts honey and warm water, then cool before use.
- Measure 2 ounces bourbon, 0.75 ounces lemon juice, 0.5 ounces honey syrup, and 0.5 ounces ginger liqueur using a jigger.
- Add all measured ingredients to the cocktail shaker along with a large handful of ice.
- Shake vigorously for 10 to 12 seconds until the outside of the shaker is frosty and cold.
- Discard the ice from the chilled rocks glass and strain the cocktail into the glass using a Hawthorne strainer.
- Add one or two large ice cubes to the glass to keep the drink cold with minimal dilution.
- Twist a lemon peel over the surface to release oils, then drop it into the drink as a garnish.
Notes
Always use fresh lemon juice squeezed moments before mixing and enjoy the cocktail immediately for best flavor.
