Ingredients

Main
  • 2 ounces 60 milliliters bourbon whiskey
  • 0.75 ounces 22 milliliters fresh lemon juice
  • 0.5 ounces 15 milliliters honey syrup
  • 0.5 ounces 15 milliliters ginger liqueur
  • Ice large cubes or cracked ice
  • Lemon wheel or twist for garnish

Equipment

  • Cocktail shaker
  • Jigger or shot glass
  • Bar spoon
  • Rocks glass
  • Citrus juicer
  • Hawthorne strainer
  • Bar towel

Method

  1. Chill the rocks glass by filling it with ice and letting it sit while you prepare the cocktail.
  2. Cut a lemon in half and juice it to yield 0.75 ounces (22 milliliters) of fresh lemon juice, straining out pulp and seeds.
  3. If needed, prepare honey syrup by mixing equal parts honey and warm water, then cool before use.
  4. Measure 2 ounces bourbon, 0.75 ounces lemon juice, 0.5 ounces honey syrup, and 0.5 ounces ginger liqueur using a jigger.
  5. Add all measured ingredients to the cocktail shaker along with a large handful of ice.
  6. Shake vigorously for 10 to 12 seconds until the outside of the shaker is frosty and cold.
  7. Discard the ice from the chilled rocks glass and strain the cocktail into the glass using a Hawthorne strainer.
  8. Add one or two large ice cubes to the glass to keep the drink cold with minimal dilution.
  9. Twist a lemon peel over the surface to release oils, then drop it into the drink as a garnish.

Notes

Always use fresh lemon juice squeezed moments before mixing and enjoy the cocktail immediately for best flavor.
