Ingredients

Main
  • 2 cans 29 ounces each peach halves in syrup or light syrup
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1/3 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 2 tablespoons peach nectar or juice from the cans
  • Pinch of sea salt

Equipment

  • Can opener
  • Colander or fine-mesh strainer
  • Large skillet or saucepan
  • Wooden spoon for stirring
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Serving spoon or slotted spoon
  • Serving bowl or platter

Method

  1. Open both cans of peaches and drain the syrup in a colander, reserving 2 tablespoons of the liquid.
  2. Heat unsalted butter in a large skillet over medium heat for 1 to 2 minutes until melted and slightly golden.
  3. Stir in brown sugar with a wooden spoon for about 30 seconds until it dissolves and forms a smooth paste.
  4. Add ground cinnamon, ground nutmeg, and a pinch of sea salt, stirring for 15 seconds to bloom the spices.
  5. Pour in vanilla extract and the reserved peach juice, stirring until the glaze is smooth and combined.
  6. Gently place the drained peach halves in the skillet and turn them to coat evenly with the glaze.
  7. Let the peaches simmer over medium heat for 3 to 4 minutes, occasionally shaking the pan to redistribute the glaze.
  8. Remove from heat, taste, and adjust seasoning with extra vanilla, brown sugar, or spices if desired.
