Ingredients

Main
  • 1 lb beef stew meat cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 2 large onions thinly sliced
  • 3 cloves garlic minced
  • 4 cups beef broth
  • 1 cup egg noodles
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

Equipment

  • Large pot or Dutch oven
  • Wooden spoon or spatula
  • Knife and cutting board
  • Measuring cups and spoons

Method

  1. Heat the olive oil in a large pot over medium heat.
  2. Add the sliced onions and a pinch of salt, cooking until they are caramelized, about 15 minutes.
  3. Add the beef stew meat to the pot and brown it on all sides.
  4. Stir in the minced garlic and dried thyme, cooking for an additional minute.
  5. Pour in the Worcestershire sauce and scrape any browned bits from the bottom of the pot.
  6. Pour in the beef broth and bring the mixture to a boil.
  7. Reduce the heat to low and let it simmer for 30 minutes.
  8. Add the egg noodles to the pot and cook according to package instructions, usually about 7-10 minutes.
  9. Season with salt and pepper to taste, then serve hot.

Notes

For extra depth, let the onions caramelize longer until they are a deep golden brown.
