Ingredients

Main
  • 1 pound ground pork
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 cup diced onion
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 2 cups mashed potatoes
  • 2 pre-made pie crusts
  • 1 egg beaten (for egg wash)

Equipment

  • Large skillet
  • Mixing bowl
  • Rolling pin
  • 9 inch pie dish
  • Knife or pastry cutter
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Cooking spoon

Method

  1. In a large skillet over medium heat, add the ground pork and beef. Cook until browned, breaking it up into small pieces.
  2. Add the diced onion and minced garlic to the skillet. Sauté until the onion is translucent.
  3. Stir in thyme, cinnamon, salt, black pepper, and ground cloves.
  4. Mix in the mashed potatoes, combining everything thoroughly.
  5. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  6. Roll out one pie crust and place it into your pie dish.
  7. Pour the meat mixture into the prepared crust. Spread it evenly.
  8. Cover with the second pie crust, crimp the edges, and cut slits in the top for steam to escape.
  9. Bake for about 45 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and filling is bubbling.
  10. Let the pie rest for 10 minutes before slicing.

Notes

Serve with a crisp green salad or pickled vegetables for added contrast.
