Ingredients

Main
  • 1 pound ground beef or turkey
  • 2 cups marinara sauce
  • 1 cup ricotta cheese
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 package 16 oz frozen dumplings
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh basil for garnish optional

Equipment

  • Oven-safe baking dish
  • Large skillet or frying pan
  • Wooden spoon or spatula
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Knife and cutting board

Method

  1. Begin by heating a large skillet over medium heat.
  2. Add the ground beef or turkey, breaking it apart with a spoon until browned and cooked through, about 5-7 minutes.
  3. Once the meat is cooked, stir in the marinara sauce and Italian seasoning. Allow it to simmer for a few minutes.
  4. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease an oven-safe baking dish.
  5. Spread a thin layer of the meat sauce on the bottom of the baking dish.
  6. Place a layer of frozen dumplings on top, covering the sauce.
  7. Spread half of the ricotta cheese over the dumplings, followed by a layer of mozzarella cheese.
  8. Continue layering with the remaining meat sauce, more dumplings, ricotta, and mozzarella until all ingredients are used.
  9. Finish with a generous layer of mozzarella on top.
  10. Cover the baking dish with foil and bake for 20 minutes.
  11. After 20 minutes, remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes or until the cheese is bubbly and golden.
  12. Let it cool for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

For even more flavor, try adding sautéed vegetables like spinach or mushrooms between the layers.
