Ingredients

Main
  • 2 racks of baby back ribs
  • 1 can 12 oz of Dr Pepper
  • 1 cup barbecue sauce
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper optional

Equipment

  • Large baking dish or roasting pan
  • Aluminum foil
  • Grill or oven
  • Meat thermometer
  • Basting brush

Method

  1. Preheat the oven to 300°F (150°C) or prepare the grill for indirect cooking.
  2. Remove the silver skin from the back of the ribs for better flavor absorption.
  3. In a small bowl, combine garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, black pepper, salt, and cayenne.
  4. Generously rub the spice mixture all over the ribs.
  5. In a large baking dish, pour the can of Dr Pepper and add the ribs, meaty side up.
  6. Cover the baking dish tightly with aluminum foil.
  7. Place the covered dish in the preheated oven and bake for 2 hours.
  8. After baking, remove the foil and brush the ribs with barbecue sauce.
  9. Return them to the oven for an additional 15-20 minutes to caramelize the sauce.

Notes

Let the ribs marinate in the Dr Pepper and dry rub overnight for extra flavor. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
