Ingredients

Main
  • Vodka 2 ounces (or gin if you prefer)
  • Dry vermouth 0.5 ounces
  • Fresh cucumber 3 to 4 slices (about 1/4 of a medium cucumber)
  • Fresh lemon juice 0.25 ounces
  • Ice cubes
  • Cucumber ribbon or thin slice for garnish
  • Sea salt or kosher salt pinch optional

Equipment

  • Cocktail shaker or mason jar with lid
  • Jigger or measuring shot glass
  • Fine mesh strainer
  • Cutting board and sharp knife
  • Vegetable peeler or microplane
  • Cocktail glass or coupe glass
  • Bar spoon
  • Juicer or citrus reamer

Method

  1. Select and prep your cucumber by slicing 3 to 4 thin rounds and peeling a ribbon of skin for garnish.
  2. Fill your cocktail shaker or mason jar three-quarters full with ice cubes.
  3. Place the cucumber slices in the shaker and gently muddle two to three times to release oils without pulverizing.
  4. Measure and pour 2 ounces of vodka (or gin) into the shaker.
  5. Add 0.5 ounces of dry vermouth to the shaker.
  6. Pour in 0.25 ounces of freshly squeezed lemon juice.
  7. Seal the shaker and shake briskly for eight to ten seconds until cold to the touch.
  8. Strain the mixture through a fine mesh strainer into a chilled cocktail or coupe glass, leaving ice and pulp behind.
  9. Garnish with the cucumber ribbon or thin slice and serve immediately.

Notes

Chill your glass for at least fifteen minutes before serving and prepare the drink immediately for best flavor.
