Ingredients

Main
  • 3 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 ½ cups warm water 110°F to 115°F
  • 1 packet 2 ¼ teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 2 teaspoons sugar
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil optional

Equipment

  • Mixing bowl
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Wooden spoon or dough whisk
  • Kitchen towel
  • Baking sheet
  • Parchment paper (optional)
  • Oven

Method

  1. Mix the warm water, sugar, and yeast in a bowl. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour and salt.
  3. Create a well in the flour mixture and pour in the yeast mixture. Stir until a shaggy dough forms.
  4. Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  5. Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl and cover with a damp kitchen towel. Let it rise for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  6. Punch down the risen dough to release the air, divide it into 12 equal pieces, and shape into balls.
  7. Place the shaped rolls on a baking sheet and cover with a kitchen towel. Let rise for another 30 minutes.
  8. Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C). Bake the rolls for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.

Notes

These rolls freeze well and can be reheated for crispiness.
