Ingredients

Main
  • 4-5 pounds pork butt
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon onion powder
  • 2 teaspoons smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 cup chicken broth

Equipment

  • Crockpot or slow cooker
  • Meat thermometer
  • Cutting board
  • Sharp knife
  • Measuring spoons

Method

  1. Start by trimming excess fat from the pork butt to prevent greasiness.
  2. In a small bowl, mix together the garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, salt, and black pepper.
  3. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat and sear the pork on all sides until golden brown.
  4. Transfer the seared pork butt to the crockpot.
  5. Pour the chicken broth around the pork in the crockpot.
  6. Cover the crockpot and set it to low for 8 hours.
  7. After 8 hours, use a meat thermometer to ensure the internal temperature reaches at least 190°F.
  8. Remove the pork from the crockpot and let it rest for a few minutes before shredding.
  9. Shred the pork using two forks, mixing in some of the flavorful juices from the pot.
