Ingredients

Main
  • 12 ounces fresh or frozen cranberries
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon optional

Equipment

  • Medium saucepan
  • Wooden spoon or spatula
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Serving dish

Method

  1. Gather all ingredients and equipment.
  2. In a medium saucepan, combine the cranberries, sugar, and water and stir to combine.
  3. Heat the mixture over medium-high heat until it comes to a boil, about 5 minutes.
  4. Once boiling, reduce heat to low and simmer for 10 to 15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the cranberries burst and the sauce thickens.
  5. Stir in the vanilla extract and ground cinnamon during the last 2 minutes of cooking.
  6. Remove the saucepan from heat and let the sauce cool to room temperature; it will continue to thicken as it cools.
  7. Transfer the cooled cranberry sauce to a serving dish.
  8. Cover and refrigerate if not serving immediately; serve chilled or at room temperature.

Notes

Let the sauce sit overnight in the refrigerator to allow flavors to meld; store in an airtight container for up to two weeks.
