Method
- Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat and add the ground beef, breaking it into fine pieces; cook for about 5 minutes until no pink remains.
- While the meat browns, combine the chili powder, cumin, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, cayenne pepper, dried oregano, black pepper, and salt in a small bowl.
- In the same bowl, whisk together water, tomato paste, soy sauce, and Worcestershire sauce until the paste is fully dissolved.
- Carefully drain excess grease from the skillet, leaving a small amount of fat for flavor.
- Reduce heat to medium, sprinkle the spice blend over the meat, and stir constantly for 1 minute to toast the spices.
- Pour the wet ingredient mixture into the skillet and stir until the meat is evenly coated.
- Reduce heat to low and let the meat simmer for 3 to 4 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the liquid is mostly absorbed and a light glaze coats the meat.
- Remove from heat, taste, and adjust seasoning with additional salt or cayenne if desired before serving.
Notes
