Ingredients

Main
  • 2 ¼ teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1 cup warm milk 110°F
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter melted
  • 1 large egg
  • 3 ½ to 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • Butter for brushing optional

Equipment

  • Mixing bowl
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Wooden spoon or dough hook
  • Baking sheet
  • Parchment paper
  • Kitchen towel
  • Oven

Method

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
  2. Add melted butter and the egg to the yeast mixture. Stir until well blended.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together 3 ½ cups of flour and salt.
  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture. Mix until a shaggy dough forms and knead by hand or with a dough hook for about 5-7 minutes.
  5. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour.
  6. Punch the dough down and divide it into 12 equal pieces. Shape each piece into three smaller balls and place them in greased muffin tins.
  7. Cover the rolls with a towel and let them rise for another 30 minutes.
  8. Preheat your oven to 375°F. Bake the rolls for 15-18 minutes, or until golden brown.
  9. Brush with melted butter immediately after baking.

Notes

These rolls are great for freezing and reheating later.
