Ingredients

Main
  • 1 cup loosely packed fresh cilantro about 1 ounce
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 3 tablespoons fresh lime juice from about 2 limes
  • 1 large garlic clove minced
  • 1/2 medium jalapeño pepper seeds removed and chopped
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 to 2 tablespoons water for consistency

Equipment

  • Blender or food processor
  • Measuring spoons and cups
  • Cutting board
  • Sharp knife
  • Citrus juicer or fork
  • Small bowl for serving

Method

  1. Gather and prepare all ingredients: cilantro, sour cream, lime juice, garlic, jalapeño, salt, pepper, and water.
  2. Remove the cilantro leaves from thicker stems and discard stems to ensure smooth texture.
  3. Place cilantro leaves and sour cream into the blender or food processor.
  4. Add fresh lime juice and minced garlic to the blender.
  5. Add chopped jalapeño pepper, salt, and black pepper to the mixture.
  6. Blend on medium-high speed for 30 to 45 seconds until smooth and creamy.
  7. If the crema is too thick, add water one tablespoon at a time, blending briefly between additions until you reach desired consistency.
  8. Taste and adjust seasoning with additional lime juice, salt, or garlic if needed before serving.

Notes

Store cilantro lime crema in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to three days. Stir well before serving.
