Ingredients

Main
  • 2 pounds chicken wings
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 4 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 teaspoon ginger grated
  • 1 teaspoon five-spice powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Oil for frying

Equipment

  • Large mixing bowl
  • Whisk
  • Frying pan or deep fryer
  • Tongs
  • Paper towels
  • Meat thermometer (optional)

Method

  1. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together soy sauce, rice vinegar, honey, minced garlic, ginger, five-spice powder, salt, and pepper to prepare the marinade.
  2. Add the chicken wings to the marinade and toss to coat thoroughly. Let them marinate for at least 30 minutes or overnight for best flavor.
  3. In a frying pan or deep fryer, heat enough oil to cover the wings to 350°F (175°C).
  4. Remove the wings from the marinade and let excess liquid drip off.
  5. Carefully place the wings in the hot oil and fry in batches for about 8-10 minutes until golden brown and crispy.
  6. Use tongs to remove the wings from the oil and place them on paper towels to absorb excess oil.
  7. Transfer the wings to a serving platter and serve hot.
  8. Enjoy the wings paired with your favorite dipping sauce.

Notes

For extra crispy wings, double fry them by letting them cool for a few minutes and then frying again for 2-3 minutes.
